The Holman Family History
The Holman history is a great story to tell, as it is truly reflective of our great country as the land of opportunity. The Holman family dates back as early as the Mayflower, when our ancestors immigrated from Europe. In fact, the roots of our business go back to the Civil War, when the Holman family made and shipped saddles and other equipment for the soldiers. In times of peace after the war, the Holman family turned to crafting furniture – furniture that eventually had to be moved. In 1886, our family started in the moving business, providing families peace of mind as they began to move to and from the New York Metropolitan area.
Since then, our contributions to the industry are well known. In 1947 we were a founding agent for United Van Lines and we remain one of their top agents today. In fact, Katherine Holman, our President (and 4th generation owner), serves on its Board of Directors.
From then to now, five generations and 125 years later, we are recognized as a premier performer, with core values built on honesty and integrity. Whether moving precious possessions in the 1880's with a horse drawn wagon, to our 2010 major global fleet of equipment, we have enjoyed a constant flow of repeat business from our customers and clients. We continue to be humbled by the hundreds of thousands of families we have had the privilege to move over the years. We are forever thankful to be part of the entrepreneurial fabric on which America was founded and hope to continue the journey for years to come.
